World Book Day at Lower Heath has been full of joy, stories and a real celebration of reading.
Children arrived in brilliant costumes or comfy clothes, ready to curl up with a good book. Our book swap was a highlight once again, as children chose new stories to refresh their home libraries and discover fresh favourites.
In classrooms, activities linked to the National Year of Reading encouraged children to explore their interests and then Go All In, diving into books about the things that inspire them. Younger children brought their favourite stories to life using small world characters and puppets, while everyone enjoyed precious uninterrupted time simply reading for pleasure.

Phew, what a busy and exciting start to the term in Hummingbird Class 🌻
The children have loved exploring The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, learning all about how plants grow and what they need to thrive. Inspired by the story, they planted their own sunflower seeds and are already excited to watch, measure, and care for them over the coming weeks.
Alongside this, we have been enjoying singing, phonics work, and creative outdoor play, including chalk flower drawings watered with real water to see the colours change.

This International Women’s Day, we were proud to hear from Niki McGarvey, MATi and Outreach Specialist Advisor, as she shared her reflections on this year’s theme of giving to gain.
When we give opportunity, encouragement and respect, we gain stronger communities, fairer workplaces and brighter futures. Every time we listen, support and open doors for women and girls, progress follows. Equality is not something we lose by sharing, it is something we all gain.
Today, and every day, we choose action, kindness and collaboration, because when women thrive, everyone thrives.

In Guided Reading and every reading opportunity we could find, Kingfishers have been honing their POWER when reading aloud 📖
The children have shown brilliant confidence, volunteering to read to one another and demonstrating fantastic listening, attention, and respect. Their expression and self belief have grown so much, and we are incredibly proud.

What a fantastic afternoon for our annual Colour Run 🌈
It was wonderful to see children and families coming together in the sunshine to celebrate the Hindu Holi Festival while raising money for our children’s chosen charities, Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and Dogs Trust.
Families joined the fun by showering the children with colourful powder, celebrating themes of good triumphing over evil, the arrival of spring, and new beginnings. The smiles, energy, and sense of community said it all.
