Woodlands School follows Shropshire Council’s admissions procedures for children with special educational needs.
Each of our learners have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We receive requests for places directly from Shropshire Council’s SEND Team. More details can be obtained by contacting the Shropshire SEND team.
More information on the admissions criteria for Woodlands can be found in our SEND policy.
Following the consultation process, your child may be offered a place at Woodlands.
We provide learners with a gradual, child-centred transition into school. This child-centred approach enables us to reduce levels of anxiety for learners, equip them with the skills and tools needed to reduce barriers to learning, and ensure better outcomes when they transition to the main school.
Learners will follow a 6-week admission/transition process, but this can be amended in order to meet the needs of individual learners. Any changes needed to the process will be discussed and agreed by learners, school staff and parents/carers during fortnightly assess-plan-do-reviews.
The impact of the admission process is monitored through fortnightly assess-plan-do-reviews; debrief records completed with learners at the end of each day/session spent in school; regular contact with home; ongoing observations; and assessment towards PCP short-term outcomes. Along with baseline data gathered, this information is used to inform the transition process and help to select the curriculum pathway that best meets the needs, strengths and aspirations of each learner
